WHAT WE DO

THE FEEDING PROGRAM

In recognition of the problem of food insecurity that causes malnutrition and dropping out of school to look for income, we developed a school feeding program. In the program, we provide schools with foodstuffs to prepare and give students breakfast and lunch. Lack of food in school threatened students’ academic and intellectual prospects.

In 2018 we researched one of the beneficiary schools of the feeding program. 85% of the children came to school hungry, and some had not eaten dinner and breakfast before coming to school. The school experience low retention, decreased class engagement by students, sick students, and low academic performance. After the program’s launch, we could see an improvement in various ways, such as improved health, a high retention rate, improved class engagement, and new enrollment for new students.

We intend to introduce the feeding program to many schools, especially those in rural areas, to have many children in school to learn.

MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

Great leadership skills are key to overall excellence. We offer mentorship to children in both primary and secondary school to guide them in their academic journey. As a result of the mentorship program, we have seen an improvement in overall discipline, character formation, and great academic excellence.

Our mentors are pre-university, university, and post-university individuals passionate about sharing their stories and how they overcame challenges experienced during their academic journey and life in general.

Over 5000 students have gone through the mentorship program in various schools around Nyeri County and its neighboring counties.

MENSTRUAL HYGIENE PROGRAM

Our health/hygiene program has seen over 1000 sanitary kits distributed to girls in several Nyeri schools and its environs. We recognize that the lack of access to sanitary towels due to poverty causes absenteeism and dropping out of school by girls from low-income earning households.

Several cases have been reported on early pregnancies for girls who some adults with money lure to purchase sanitary kits. In return, these adult men as for sexual favors that lead to early pregnancies, transmission of Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). In the long run, such girls become young mothers, therefore halting their academic journey, devastatingly affecting the overall household.

Through the program, we have trained these young girls on proper menstrual hygiene and issued them sanitary kits to handle menses properly.

BEES FOR BRITTANY

The chief aim of this project is to raise funds for disadvantaged youth. It involves getting partners who can adopt a hive at a fee and packaging and selling honey upon harvest. The revenue generated is used to finance other programs that the organization runs. Since 2018, the project has raised over $3,000, which has seen the smooth running of the organization’s operations.

We are currently in our second phase of hive adoption, of which we aim to set up 100 more hives to increase honey production and generate more income to finance our programs.

The cost for adopting one hive is $49. Once the hive have been adopted, it’s set up and labelled after the individual, group, company, family, etc. that adopted it. Join us!
